Lastplak is a group of around nine painters with different backgrounds and diverse skills. Our goal is to paint, no matter what surface, size or location. Our work can be found all over the world, but our homebase is Rotterdam, so that's where most of our stuff can be seen. Ja toch!
One of our latest collective paintings got printed on high quality 200 grams A2 size and will be on display at the "Lastplak presents Your Art Fair" during the Museumnight on March 7th here in Rotterdam (soon more about this!). The print will be for sale during the event, and on this site, and there will also be a limited number of signed prints available, more info via lastplak@gmail.com
Here's some pictures of the print and the process.
Last saturday there was our third LP-Party in Cafe De Beurs which is "squatted" by Club Zonder Concessies. There were GRRT visuals of squat riots and there was music by some DJ friends like: Mark, Remko(Love2party), Tjerk and Acab.
So, lots of people, from squatters to the old school "De Beurs" visitors. They didn't even seem to mind that Marco Borsato had been deleted from the soundsystem and made way for some dirty electro, grimey dubstep, old gabber, hardcore tekno and breakbeats. In the late hours everybody was jumping and shouting like madmen untill the party was shut down around 5.00.
Even though "squat party" is more a concept or theme in this series of parties, we tried to make it as much "squat" as possible. They probably forgot to tell the bouncers (yes, a squat party with bouncers in a former ballentent…) who seemed to stick to their usual door policy: zero braincell tolerance. It was freezing cold (pretty squat), the bar and doors opened a hour to late and the bouncers were just annoying everybody at the door: "What are you coming for ? , This is an unusual evening, you might not be interested and better off elsewhere, no trainingspants, your hat's too low, Is this really your ID? , You are offending me", etc. Sorry friends if you didn't get in, we spend a lot of time having useless discussions with these people and also the management team (not so squat) tried to explain the idea of the party. Unfortunately these people enjoy having a little bit of power and consider the door their domain. Nice to see above the entrance though was the projection of GRRT's compilation of old Squatting riot videos, it really added up to the atmosphere! Even the cops came checking whether it was really squatted and spend an hour on the sidewalk watching the visuals.
Today the 2nd Kidrobot Fatcap series will be released, for which Torrie made a "synth head" design. Here are some pics by Kidrobot of the demo version.
I promised a local toy store to paint a 9" BUD designer toy, but never really started, untill lately I had a nice idea for the bomb shaped head, which would be perfect to visualize the current opinions about Geert Wilders, a dumb ass wannabe dutch politician.
Recently there is a lot of worldwide tension around Geert Wilder's anti-islamic movie "Fitna". Allthough allmost everybody in Holland knows Wilders is a total retarded ignorant asshole, horny for attention and using "freedom of speech" as an excuse to get it, alot of people abroad think he speaks for all Dutch people and its government, which is not true.
So I thought I had a nice idea for painting this crap designer toy, but still I lack the skills for doing it the way I want it to be, so I asked our protege Rafael Badilla from Chili to do the paint job, which I think worked out pretty damn well. The result shows the "politician" Geert Wilders and his "terrrorist" dark side. ( because he provokes hate and sets up people against eachother) You can turn the head to choose between 2 sides.
THe toy will be braught back to the "Nieuwenhuizen modelbouw" shop at the Oude Binnenweg for exposing it in the window of their shop. I hope they put it. It will not be for sale at the shop, please email for serious bids, not fot death threats or hate mail.
The Lastplak Party was great! Thanks to TicToc for playing some real funky tunes, Dj Acab for his contribution, Grrt for the visuals, Tlp for skinning up and everybody who showed up.
