Lastplak is a group of around nine painters with different backgrounds and diverse skills. Our goal is to paint, no matter what surface, size or location. Our work can be found all over the world, but our homebase is Rotterdam, so that's where most of our stuff can be seen. Ja toch!
For Watt (Rotterdams newest club) we painted the toilet-group in the Basement and the Basement entrance. Ox-Alien, Mayb, Oles, Boortorrie, Ces53, Sterf, Yen, Grrt, Pinwin & Sake from our collective and guest artist: Shinto, Mbs from Germany, Deace from France and Ment from Brasil joined us for this job. In the toilet-group we painted 6 doors, all the walls and the ceiling full colour. The Basement entrance we painted mayan style in grey tones, a thing Ces53 came up with. It took us a full week to finish the job. We also did the signing through the whole club. Here some pictures, later this week some more of the opening.
For Maritiem Museum in Rotterdam we painted a sea container half a year ago during the Museum night. And we thought it was about time to give it a second layer of paint. Most of the crew showed up, plus: Ment from Brasil and the leprechaun guy. We also painted two cars next to the museum on this sunny sunday.
Last weekend Mayb, Pinwin and the girls fixed a car and crossed to Germany to check out Berlin again, the city we love. Besides love, biking the city, eating damn good food, drinking the Berlin finest halveliters and swinging around in cocons drinking happyhour cocktails, of course they painted! On the Berlin Wall they painted a huge LASTPLAK piece, where each painted a letter after another, we love Berlin! Yeah!
Last weekend the youngsters of the LP crew (Acab, Sterf, Mayb, Yen, Sake & Pinwin) represented at the notorious Solar festival organised by Extrema in Roermond, down in the south of Holland. When the rest of the crew was at the my808 party in Groningen. The wheater was almost all the time great and the vibe was so good that we almost don't remember a thing. Fat Beats, fresh beers, paint, Goodvibes, freefood, Dixirave's and lots of nice girls. Pinwin even managed somehow to take home the most beautifull girl of the festival as a big bonus on top of a great festival. We painted four walls wich were part of a huge wooden boat in the midle of the festival terain. Two of the walls were along the Solar trackside where a little train was transporting crazy partypeople every two minutes.. Yeah!
Last saturday we had the opening of our latest expo in Dek-22 here in Rotterdam. The expo contains a lot of individual work but also a few collaboration paintings. And naturally we painted a car in front of the gallery during this opening. You can still check out this expo the whole of August on wednesday's, friday's and sunday's from 12:00 till 17:00 in Dek-22 Willem Buytewechstraat 22 Rotterdam. Here some pictures.
Last week part of the Lastplak crew (Acab, Pinwin, Sterf & Torrie) painted on the PAF festival in Pelekas town, Corfu Greece. It is a yearly 3-day festival where a huge wall gets painted.
This year the line up was: Loomit, Naste, Estee, Erase, Lastplak, EPPP crew, Apset, Nes, Domez. Live, Nade, Lue, Ser, Jerz, Nastwo, Smartie, Dwayne, Noone, Inva, Rhino, Rasl, Sake, Artemis, Dask, Ozone, Ners, Kasp, Siemer.
We painted a piece of the wall next to Flip from the Canary Islands and some friends from Barcelona, great styles that nicely connected with each other and ours. Big up to Swipe from San Francisco who we will definentely will hook up with in the future. There was a great wall by the guys from the Out For Krime crew from Athens, Tattoo guys from NoBraincells.com.and some local and Greek writers, FBI-CIA and others. Loomit was there for only one day and dropped a properly prepared wall according to the theme. This year's theme was "The 5+1 senses". Unfortunately and unexpected there was a limited amount of colors available and a serious lack of black and white, so that a lot of artists had to improvise and make unwanted concessions. Also they had some kind of idea about how the wall should be done, but we didn't really understand about that…. Still, it was a nice happening and a wall with a lot of good productions. On another wall there were workshops and a possibility to paint for starting writers.
The 3 day festival was split up in 1 day of Hip Hop, 1 day of Reggae and 1 day Electronic music. We saw some talented local hip hop acts like Phase 3 and Apogonoi, who supplied us with a nice mixtape souvenir we'll be using as the background music for our PAF-Youtube compilation. We had a good time with the boys from Marcus Scientist -Moka Soundsystem, supplying us with nice dub, reggae, grime and raggamuffin' tunes & MC'ing. Saturday there was a nice Ska performance by Locomondo. Personally, we were not so fond of the electronical music acts that sounded a bit too much Eurovision Song Festival to us, but the locals seemed to to like it a lot so the atmosphere therefore was excellent and positive. Too bad they serve Amstel beer everywhere, but we got a good supply of the Greek Mythos beers, Jamas ! ( That's "cheers" in Greek, one of the first and only words we know)
We stayed at the festival's camping site but getting any rest was difficult. The soundsystem started at 10.00 a.m. and lasted till 04.00 a.m. Everybody partied afterwards on the camping site, with a great view on the island and under the olive trees. We also couldn't sleep because of the freaking acidheads, crickets, barking dogs all night, howling owls and playing squirls and all the scary stories and warnings we heard about the island: snakes, scorpions, spiders, sea hedge hogs, jellyfish, white sharks and ticks. Not that we encountered any of these… They had the best portable toilets ever, with a seat that pops up automatically and a jackpot style handle to pull away your shit that drops on a transporter band with an ingenious cleaning spray system.During our stay we met the nice family Panaretos who have a ceramics and pottery workshop. They invited us to paint a couple of mugs, in return we painted the house of their vegetarian dog Mytchos and we donated all our paint leftovers to their son Spiros to start his graffiti career on Corfu..Offcourse we had to act like typical dutch tourists too, so we did some sightseeing on the mountain, swimming at the beautifull beaches, climbing on the rocks, in the olive trees and consuming the entire local menus.
Last week we painted a shutter for a jeweller here in Rotterdam. Participating artist were: Boortorrie, Sterf, Foxy Lady, Ox-Alien, Mayb, Thor, Die Aardappel, Grrt & Mbs from The Duale Squad (Germany).
Last friday was the opening of the Streetvision expo in Breda. It's part of the Graphic Design Festival Breda and took place the whole weekend on different locations. We painted a wall there based on a combination of Rotterdam street posters and the color green. But most important thing: the party was good!
