Lastplak is a group of around nine painters with different backgrounds and diverse skills. Our goal is to paint, no matter what surface, size or location. Our work can be found all over the world, but our homebase is Rotterdam, so that's where most of our stuff can be seen. Ja toch!
Last sunday there was a spontaneous action by different writers who happened to be in Rotterdam to paint the side of Club Watt. The police showed up because people from the neighborhood complained and there was no official permit, after a hour of arguing we could finish our mural. Martha Cooper was also with us to document the whole thing, in the end she said: "Police 0 – Art 1". Here some pictures.
Yesterday it was time again for our annual appearance at the Kunst Tour in the deep south of Holland, Maastricht. Ox-Alien, Mayb, Pinwin, Sake, Acab and Termz went down there. It was a nice and hot day, we drank a lot of Ottas and painted 2 walls. Here some pictures.
Last saturday there was also the Goofy vs. Regular graffiti contest at Area51 in Eindhoven. Pinwin, Mayb and Sterf participated for the crew and took the 3rd place! To check the whole wall click HERE!
Last weekend we had a demolition jam right in de middle of Rotterdam city at the Grote Markt. Because there are no legal spots to paint in Rotterdam we decided to paint this demolition site. Old and new school writers showed up from all over the country and the sun was on our side. Luckily the police didn't bother us. Here some pictures.
Last Saturday’s Lastplak Your Art Fair was a big succes! The project was realized in only two weeks, so big Thanks to all the artists who joined in on such short notice and basic possibilities. There were about 800 visitors through the evening and beer was sold out even twice, like always… The fair showed a nice variety of work and gained lots of interest and positive reactions. All film material that was shot will probably appear online soon.
The exhibition, presentations and live paint session were suitably accompanied by DJ sets ftom Martha, Tjerk, Michiel and the Captain. Host of the evening De Rijminstructeur spit his linguistic linesand prepared the crowd for the Reggaeton and Hiphop live acts, something some people were not so used to, but props to these young guys for rocking their set!
As soon as the fair was put up, it was torn down, and we definitely hope to do something like this again somewhere in the future!

For a new Dutch movie "Carmen van het Noorden" we painted some background decorations. The movie is based on the opera Carmen and features Tygo Gernandt as a cop who falls in love with a girl from the streets. It will be in Dutch cinemas at the end of this year, so go check it out and spot our debut on the silver screen!
Last friday we had the opening of our show in Showroom MAMA at the Witte de Withstraat. In coorporation with SKVR and MAMA we came up with a concept where we would sketch a line drawing on one of the walls. The idea was that 9 classes of highschool kids would do the fillin so we chose 9 colors that we like and gave them numbers, just like mr. Ravensburger did already for a thousand times.
We did the fillin mentally en then put the corresponding numbers in the different – to be filled – shapes. All the kids really enjoyed painting with us and we can't deny they did a pretty neat job! After they were done we did our outlines ones more and added some more colors on some spots so that the final result looks pretty damn fresh. For the second part of the workshop we made a crazy overwhelming 3D-sculpture made out of inspiration objects, goodies and also the 3D work that was available. We basically dumped everything onto the platform and rearranged it a bit, then we started tagging over the whole platform and suddenly it looked quite nice. When the workshops started the kids would sit in front of it to collectively draw a sketch which they would have to draw for real on one of the selected pannels. We made sure we would look critically to all the pieces in order to be able to present the seven best ones on the opening and throughout the whole christmas holiday. For the rest off course, we made sure to hang a few of our own works as well, and we also managed to claim the MAMA space as a temporary atelier so the whole exhibition will constantly be 'in aanbouw' (under construction).
The show will be open from 13.00 – 18.00 on: sun 28 december and wed 31 december.
If these dates don't match with your christmas schedual you can pretty much see all the work through the windows, and off course we didn't forget to paint the windows as well so you basically can't miss it! Come and check it out, we hope to see you!
And off course a big thanks to everybody who participated in this project!
